Magnificent bronze with medal patina taking the bronze work of Phidias whose best existing copy is in marble, dating from the second half of the 5th century BC, currently at the Museums of the Capitol of Rome.

There is also a famous cast executed by Luigi Valadier around 1780 in Rome for Pierre-Gaspard-Marie Grimod, Count of Orsay (1748-1829) and currently preserved in the Vatican Museums ( amazon mattei )

Dressed in a loose chiton held at the waist by a kolpos, the left breast bare, this amazon stands, a leg resting against a tree trunk at the foot of which lies her pelta ( shield of the amazons ). She put her helmet on the ground and, with an inclined face marked by a «absent» look , her arm raised above her head, she seems to release her bow to relieve herself.

Very good condition, beautiful medal patina (glazed brown).

F.Barbedienne, Fondeur: signed on the terrace, confirming a cast from the nineteenth century (while "Barbedienne fondeur, Paris" indicates a cast from the early twentieth century).

Numbered in ink under the base 63967 and engraved 011 triple K , affixed to the most beautiful fonts.
